Richard P. Sommerfeld, Jr., Managing Director
With 40 years of domestic and international experience, Mr. Sommerfeld focuses on delivering the perfect arbitrage model for our investor partners.
Previously, he was Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Sekurus, an asset protection, tracking and management company. Formerly, he had been SVP and CFO of Airbee Wireless, a public software company. With operations on three continents, Mr. Sommerfeld served as CEO of Hong Kong’s Dransfield Food & Beverage Holdings and was the first brewer of Chinese lager outside of China. He was a partner in The Meridian Partnership, a European private equity firm, VP-Finance & Investments of Resort Properties Group, and CFO of the Levant Group. Mr. Sommerfeld held senior positions in international investment banking with Continental Bank (acquired by Bank of America) and Citicorp Investment Bank. He pioneered the concept of hedging gold for the central bank and mining houses of South Africa. Mr. Sommerfeld has extensive experience in the gold markets from mining to custodial services, finance, and trading.
He is a member of the Board of Advisors for BitSpray, a cyber security software company.
Mr. Sommerfeld holds a Masters of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a BA (International Studies) from Virginia Tech.
Mark D. Bosses, Director of Finance
Mark Bosses has a BS in Business Management and Economics and has 33 years of international business experience. In addition to manufacturing, marketing and sales experience, Mr. Bosses has numerous inventions and is credited with 35 U.S. and International patents.
Mr. Bosses is the former owner of Home Care Industries, and sold his company in 1998 to a multi-billion dollar private equity fund. After Home Care, he began actively investing in commodities and commercial office properties. He is the current managing member of MB Properties, LLC and MB Properties II, LLC. In 2012, Mr. Bosses founded a new company, Zenith Technologies, LLC which manufacturers and markets specialty floor care equipment.
Evan W. Sommerfeld, Director of Operations & Compliance
Prior to becoming Vice President- Compliance, Mr. Sommerfeld was a Senior District Executive with the Tidewater Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was responsible for a staff of more than 100 and managed facilities, equipment and infrastructure. As President of Encore Dealer Services, he managed a national sales force of automotive electronics agents, distributors and installer to include sales/service training, sales/service literature, product launches, sales channels and supply chain infrastructure. He developed complex automotive electronics products with engineers and ISO certified overseas manufacturers in South Africa and Taiwan. Previously, he was Recruiter & Executive Officer for the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets where he recruited the largest freshman class since 1970.
A graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned a BA (International Studies) with concentrations in international business and global politics and policy, he is active with the Boy Scouts of America.
Jacob Bosses, Director of Communications
Mr. Bosses is Vermilion’s IT systems administrator. He is a director of a high-end floor care appliance company with manufacturing plants in Germany and China. He has experience with retail account management, logistics, and digital marketing. Jacob has also co-founded a not-for-profit organization that built and staffed a medical clinic for underserved communities in rural Uganda. He graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Business with degrees in Business Enterprise Management, Marketing, and Global Trade & Commerce.
Carter B. McCain, Director & General Counsel
Mr. McCain’s legal expertise and breadth of experience encompasses international business, alternative finance and funding, financial instruments, escrow, trustee and fiduciary services. He is Of Counsel in the firm of de la Parte & Gilbert, PA. “AV” rated by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, he was selected by his peers as a Florida Super Lawyer from 2007-2009. In addition to his capacity as Chairman of the McCain Family Office, he is also a member of various boards of directors, and serves as Treasurer and Trustee at Tampa General Hospital Foundation, Inc.
Mr. McCain received his Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law, and received a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Business Administration from the University of Florida.
Maryori Vivas, Director-Latin America
Ms. Vivas has more than 20 years of professional experience working as a project manager in Colombia and the Dominican Republic with a range of companies from the US, Mexico, Sweden, and Africa. Her experience integrating multicultural and multidisciplinary teams with skills to handle technical knowledge and prepare commercial proposals is very broad. She has worked with a cross-section of industries, such as mining, and has been involved in international fairs and exhibitions and business roundtables as buyer and seller. Her experience working with marketing, customer service and negotiation contributes to a professional focus in cross-cultural management issues and business development.
Ms. Vivas holds a BSc. Industrial Engineer at Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá – Colombia, and CMSc. Systems Engineering and Management from Richmond College, London. She is a native Spanish speaker with fluency in English, French and Italian, basic Mandarin and Portuguese.
